Dr. Olaf Schenk

Research Interest

Dr. Olaf Schenk's research interests span the areas of algorithms, computational science, parallel computing architectures, and applications. His recent work focuses on sparse matrix solver technolgy, genetic optimization algorithms and software support for parallel processing. Whenever possible, his projects include applications with users outside the core area of computer science and mathematics. Part of his projects are done in close collaboration with industrial partners from IBM Watson, Yorktown Heights, USA and AutoForm Engineering AG, Zurich, Switzerland. Currently, he is involved in an ETHZ strategic excellence project on large scale eigenvalue problems and a project on linear solver technology supported by KTI. He received a diploma in applied mathematics and computer science from the University of Karlsruhe (Germany) and a PhD degree from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ) in Switzerland.
