Prerequisites You sucessfully completed the following courses or have at your command the corresponding skills: Web Data Management, Grundlagen der Programmierung, Programmierprojekt
Objectives Students understand the internal structure and organization of database systems, in particular the internal processes and data structures for query processing, optimization, and transaction management. They possess both the theoretical knowledge and the practical skills to integrate several heterogeneous data sources and to apply analytical (data warehouse) queries on them.
Contents The course extends the introduction to databases given in Web Data Management and provides in-depth knowledge in the following areas:
- Data models, data and information integration
- Query processing in databases, index structures, query optimization, data warehousing
- Transaction management

Please note: Oral examination, duration: 30 minutes. Dates: 15 & 16 June 2017 [UPDATED !], Spiegelgasse 1, office 06.005.
Admission to the oral examination: requires at least 50% of the points from the exercises and from the data integration / data warehousing project. Dates for the project presentations will also be announced in February 2017.
